Replace vs Restore Mentality
4/5/2022 (Permalink)
The restore vs. replace mentality is one of the greatest assets SERVPRO of Sarpy County, Omaha East has. When it comes to making it "Like it never even happened," it's impossible to overstate the importance of keeping as many of the original items as possible. Restoring contents and materials allows prices to stay down as the cost for restoration is 20% of the replacement cost. More importantly, restoring is the preferred option because whether we realize it or not, the things in our homes, even the most arbitrary, have some sentimental value. The blanket you always grab when you watch a movie, the plate you put your Thanksgiving turkey on, or the couch your grandparents gave you. Every item of yours is essential, and SERVPRO of Sarpy County, Omaha East will treat it as such
Preventing Water Damage Caused by Frozen Pipes

SERVPRO Provides Water Removal Services During the Winter in the Sarpy County Area
As most people know, winterizing your home in the fall can help prevent issues in the winter when the temperatures drop and snow flies. Prevention is always the key to avoiding costly damage caused by cold temperatures or snowfall.
When it comes to deterring frozen pipes and ice damming in the Sarpy County area, most homeowners know the basics of winterizing your home. However, for houses that seem to be prone to damage in the winter, there are several steps you can take to prevent issues related to cold weather. First off, it is always wise to remove outdoor water fixtures, including hoses and sprinkler systems.
If certain sections of your pipes have frozen in the past, you may need to take steps to keep them warm in the wintertime. One way is to wrap a UL-endorsed heater tape to your water lines with a thermostat to prevent overheating. A less expensive way is to cover all of your pipes with foam insulation. It is also wise to heat your sink drain lines with a lamp or leave your cabinets open, especially on cold nights.
If your power happens to go out during a storm, you should open both your cold and hot water faucets so the water keeps moving. You can also go through your hose and seal off any gaps or cracks near any of your water pipes. Other more permanent prevention methods are a thermal convection-powered hot water recirculation valve or installing a "RedyTemp" system that monitors the water temperature inside your lines.
But, if you still notice a leak caused by a pipe freeze or ice dam, our SERVPRO technicians can help in the following ways:
- Water Removal Services
- Water Damage Repairs
- Applied Structural Drying (ASD)
- Water Clean Up
Anytime you notice water inside your house where it is not supposed to be, call SERVPRO of Sarpy County at (402) 291-3355

"Ethics"
The premise for this ethics course is that although we may have solid ethical foundations and usually make rational ethical decisions, ethical lapses are likely to come when we are stressed, angry, upset, worried, or otherwise disengaged. Each and every day we are faced with decisions that could cause harm to others or ourselves. Facing ethical decisions can be very difficult, especially when we make decisions that may seem correct at first, but we later find out were not so great. As we explore what "Ethics" is, you will be challenged to become involved in group activities. The group activities will help reinforce what has been learned, as well as increase your ability to better deal with ethical decision-making in your own life.

Smoke Damage Cleanup - Upholstery Cleaning
11/8/2019 (Permalink)
Our Fire Team Crew Chief, Kay, specializes in upholstery cleaning furniture that has smoke damage. She oversees pack outs of properties with fire damage or smoke damage.
Humidity from the water used to put out the fire turns the soot residue form the fire very acidic, so our main priority in cleaning smoke damaged contents is to neutralize the acidic soot particles. Ince cleaned by hand, the items are processed through an ozone chamber, either on-site or at our facility. The ozone chamber finalizes the cleaning process and deodorizes the smoke-damaged items.

Adults and children alike look forward to October for one reason, Halloween. The candy, decorations, and costumes create a fun environment. Most of those that work at SERVPRO of Sarpy County have children of their own and enjoy the holiday season, being seasoned vets, they have multiple tips for October 31st. Make sure the costumes fit correctly and make adjustments if need be, as well as test out any make up to make sure your children don’t have a reaction. Be conscious of any long fabric hanging from the costumes, these can catch on decorations and tear. Don’t be afraid to skip the one lit house on a dark road, if you’re in a large group go together or not at all. Lastly, Check the candy, check for any candy that the kids may have allergic reactions to or any candy that may have been opened. Don’t be afraid to keep the good stuff for yourself!
