Frigid Temps Can Cause Water Damage in the Omaha Metro

Winter weather can bring about more issues than just slippery roads and heavy snow to shovel.  With lows expected to be more than -10 degrees this week, we are also at risk for frozen pipes, which can cause a major water damage disaster at your house or business.

With the extreme cold comes an increased risk for frozen pipes in cooler areas of your home or business.  Here are some tips to help prevent pipes in areas such as basements, attics, garages, and kitchen cabinets from freezing during the coming cold snap:

• Open faucets slightly to let water drip or slowly trickle during extreme cold.
• Keep your heat set to a consistent temperature 24 x 7.
• Open kitchen cabinets to let warm air circulate near the plumbing, especially those near outside walls.
• Consider insulating pipes in especially cold areas of your home like crawlspaces or attics.
