Tornado Safety in Nebraska
6/11/2020 (Permalink)
Nebraska is in the heart of Tornado Alley, where warm, humid air collides with cold, dry air. In an average year, there are over 800 tornado reports and over 80 deaths. Tornadoes are most common during spring and summer but can occur anytime of the year.
A tornado watch means a tornado could possibly form near the area. A tornado warning means that there has been a confirmed tornado nearby.
If you are home during a tornado, go to a safe room in the lowest level of your home or a small interior room with no windows, hide under something sturdy like a table or work bench, and protect your head and neck with a pillow or blanket. See ready.gov for more information on tornado preparedness.
